AccuWeather Alert: Ice storm warning for parts of the region

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – An ICE STORM WARNING is issued to our western Pennsylvania counties from Monday evening to early Tuesday morning. Significant glaze is possible with the construction of half an inch of ice in the Lehigh Valley. Travel will be dangerous. Ice can be heavy enough to bring down some branches and power lines.

Look for occasional rain and freezing rain today, which can lead to icy patches in some areas, especially in our northern and western suburbs. Otherwise it will be a cloudy and cold day with a height of only 34.

IN THE EVENING: Freezing rain arrives in the evening before changing to rain later at night near I-95. In our far northwest suburbs (NW Bucks, Montgomery and Chester, Lehigh Valley, Berks County and the Poconos) the change to rain may not happen until late at night or Tuesday morning. Ice buildup on untreated surfaces will make things dangerous for motorists and pedestrians. Lowest night will be around 30 with temperatures rising towards dawn.

TUESDAY: There is likely to be some persistent icy rain and sleet in the morning in some northwest suburbs, particularly Lehigh Valley, Berks County and the Poconos, where travel can be dangerous early. Further south we see straight rain in the morning rush hour with possible drying. The afternoon looks cloudy and mild with a height of 46.

WEDNESDAY: We get a day off in the winter precipitation. Look for a mostly sunny, colder but completely dry day with a height of 36.

THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy skies return with a period of snow and sleet in the morning, gradually changing to rain. Several inches of snow will be possible before the shift over. The high is 37.

Friday: Clouds will break for some sun. It is airy and milder with a height of 44.

SATURDAY: Look for a sunny but fast and cold day with an altitude of only 35.

SUNDAY: A southerly turn in our wind direction brings milder air back into the region. Look for partly sunny skies and a more comfortable height of 40.

Monday: The milder trend continues with a high level of 43, but it is cloudy and we have a chance of a little rain or snow, especially in the morning.
