A number of black alumni from Bachelor Nation shows have spoken after host Chris Harrison said he ‘stepped aside for a period’ after making headlines for his controversial response to a contestant’s racism scandal.

DeMario Jackson from season 13 and Jubilee Sharpe from season 20 were among the reality stars who spoke with TMZand said Harrison’s vacation from the show should be permanent.

He continued: ‘It sucked just because, yes, we had each other, but there was no one we could really relate to because it was an all-white production, all-white cast, all-white performance … which is great, but it’s 2021 now.

‘If they want to move on and have a more black fanbase, I would say it all starts inside. Like do you really want black fans, or do you want to put a patch over a bullet wound? ‘

Sharpe said the show’s producers seemed to pay more attention to white contestants during his time on the show.

Marshana Ritchie from season 12 and Leslie Hughes from season 17 told the outlet that Harrison needed to do something about the black story and undergo sensitivity training to get back to his place on the network show. Bachelorette season 10 star Marquel Martin and Bachelor’s Robyn Jedkins told TMZ Harrison should return with his job but need to focus on re-understanding black issues before commenting further.
