Since the holiday season, the number of deaths is still relatively high, but there is a decrease in COVID-19 admissions
COVID-19 cases are declining, but the vaccine is not the driving factor, according to health experts.
They attribute shrinking virus cases to Americans who comply with COVID-19 restrictions. They report that mask-wearing, social distance and reduction of travel are the main contributing factors, not the vaccine, per CNN.
“It’s encouraging to see these trends come down, but they are coming down from an extraordinarily high place,” said the CDC director. Dr. Rochelle Walensky Sunday to NBC.
“If we want to get our kids back in school, and I think we all do, it all depends on how much societal proliferation there is out there.”
Since the holiday season, the number of deaths is still relatively high, but there is a decrease in COVID-19 admissions.
“That’s what we do right: stay separate, wear masks, do not travel, do not mix with others indoors,” said Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The seven-day average of new cases of coronavirus is 90,416, down from the 250,000 new case average we saw in early January. Johns Hopkins University.
The record height of COVID-19 infections was 132,447 on January 6, but per. On Sunday, only 67,023 were hospitalized with the infection per. COVID tracking project.
But despite the decline as a country, we have a way to go. On average, 3,000 still lose their lives every day due to the virus.
By this time, more than 14 million Americans have taken both doses of the vaccine, but it takes a few weeks to become effective, and this number represents only about 4% of the population.
Also new variants of the virus is spreading, so Americans are urged to still take precautions.
“We have had three increases. Whether we have a fourth wave or not is up to us, ”said Frieden.
“And the stakes could not be higher – not only in the number of people who could die in the fourth wave, but also in the risk of even more dangerous variants occurring if there is more uncontrolled spread.”
