BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Many across the Brazos Valley are without power Monday morning after the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) instructed state-wide power supplies to begin introducing rolling outages to help rebalance the grid.
ERCOT has declared an “energy emergency alert three” in the state and said rollout is necessary. Rolling interruptions are temporary interruptions of electrical service that can last anywhere from 10-45 minutes per. Neighborhood and are necessary due to an imbalance between electrical load and available production due to the cold weather.
Bryan Texas Utilities reports nearly 23,000 interruptions Monday morning. Rotating interruptions will continue through the morning, but BTU said some outcomes are weather-related.
MidSouth Electric Co-Op, a utility operating in Grimes, Madison, Montgomery and Walker counties, reported 2,039 outages Monday morning.
Navasota Valley Electric, serving the counties of Robertson, Leon, Freestone, Limestone, Brazos, Falls, Madison, Hill and McLennan, has reported over 10,000 outages.
Bluebonnet Electric serves many counties in Central Texas, including the counties of Washington, Lee, Burleson, and Milam. In these four counties, 6,446 power outages have been reported.
ERCOT has said they expect rolling results Monday morning, but they may last until the severe weather ends. They ask all consumers to save on their energy consumption.
“Every network operator and power company is struggling to restore power right now,” said ERCOT CEO Bill Magness.
